NICEIC Certification, via its extensive network of approved centres, offers a structured training package as an alternative to NVQ as a route into the gas industry.
What is the Basic Gas Utilisation (BGU) Course?
The Basic Gas Utilisation course is an accepted route into ACS assessment and once successfully completed with the appropriate experience can lead to registration.
The training is designed for mature candidates who are able to demonstrate that they have a reasonable level of practical skill and understanding, for example someone changing career or someone already working as a ‘mate’ within the gas/plumbing related industries.
The course is based on 4 weeks training at a centre, followed by the candidate working under the supervision of an existing registered engineer/company to create a portfolio of various areas of work. During this time sufficient support and guidance will be given to ensure the completion of the portfolio. Once the portfolio is complete the operative will receive a certificate of achievement, allowing them to go forward to undertake ACS Core Gas Safety (CCN1).
