ACS Scheme

The ACS scheme delivers a certificate of competence that is required by operatives who must be legally registered to undertake gas work. Certification is available for a wide range of gas work including:

  • Domestic Natural Gas Installations
  • Commercial Installations (including heating, catering and laundry)
  • Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Installations
  • Emergency Service & Meter Installation

Why do I need an ACS certificate of competence?

It is a requirement of the Gas Safety Regulations (1998) for individuals to be competent in the areas of gas work they carry out and registered with a body recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

Application: Made by the candidate by choosing an approved assessment centre
Initial assessment: First-time entrants under the scheme are required to take an initial assessment which is modular and can be tailored and grouped together to suit the nature of the work carried out.
Re-assessment: Renewal of competence is required every 5 years which can be a shorter process than the initial assessment. It is designed to cover key competencies and any changes introduced.
